“So I commend the enjoyment of life, because there is nothing better for a person under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then joy will accompany them in their toil all the days of the life God has given them under the sun.” - Ecclesiastes 8:15
At Barefoot, campers have many opportunities to not only grow closer to God in worship, but to live the life of enjoyment God has generously given every one of us. Life is full of simple and beautiful moments and campers this week truly leaned into those moments during their free time.
Zip-line, rec lake, and rock climbing, all while spending quality time with friends, are just a few of the free time activities campers have to choose from.
One of the most intricate things at Barefoot is the balance between fun, worship, godly relationships, and free time. Just like God has given us all free will, here at Barefoot campers had the freedom to choose how they spend their time.
For some, these activities might be their first. For Paola, a camper in Cabin 5, this week was her first time ever going on a zip-line. For other campers, myself included, had never climbed a tree before, and for some they had never been on a boat. This week consisted of a lot of firsts and God was with every camper with each step they took.
With many smiles and much laughter, it is safe to say that free time is one of the most liberating and entertaining times campers have to be themselves. Campers had the opportunity to talk to all the campers at Barefoot and connect wit
h people outside of their Republic, growing closer in relationship, not only with God, but with other Christ-centered people.
Free time allows campers to let loose and enjoy the time God has blessed them with on earth. At the end of the day, each and every one of us has the gift of waking up each morning and starting a new day.
I challenge you to take time and thank God for your day today and find contentment and enjoyment in that. Each minute is a gift and as long as you keep God in your heart every second, His presence will surround you.
