Day 4

DSC_1287 It’s a hot, sunny day and as the kids arrived to camp, they slapped on their name tags running over to their republic groups crowding around their republic leaders. Before all camp meeting, the ladies played with each others hair forming braid trains and the fellas huddled in with their buddies joking around. “G-O-O-D M-O-R-N-I-N-G, good morning” was shouted to the kids by MC Emily and they started chanting “How do we change?, From the inside out” over and over agin stomping their feet. A volunteer from the boys side and the girls side hopped up on stage to play this fantastic game where they sat on balloons popping them to see how many they could pop. Sorry ladies, fellas won! What a hilarious game!
DSC_1384Off to devos they headed to learn more stories about God. “Iron Man” was the game they played during team building. Its a relay race for all the republics to compete against each to see who will win. It started in the Gah Gah pit where they stamped the bottom of their fist and their fingers to stamp a foot on a piece of paper. They then slid down the water slide as fast as they could running over to kick a soccer ball into a goal, throw tennis balls into buckets, stack cups into a pyramid, play dictionary with chalk on pavement, stand in a line holding hands hopping through the hula hoop from one end of the line to the other, high- fiving with shaving cream, digging through a trash can of balls for a zip lock bag of puzzle block pieces, and running inside to solve the puzzle that spelled out “Inside Out”. Ultimately, the republics were very close in winning, but Republic #5 on the boys side won and republic #3 on the girls side won!

They are having a blast in their specialties! Outdoor Adventure learned how to make a fire and visual arts created art out of leaves, branches, and flowers. Visual arts also had a good time painting mason jars, which they will get to show all of you tomorrow for the youth production! Songwriting has been working on making their own song and it will be amazing to hear! They had some fun at free time with archery shooting their arrows, pony rides, and cooling down on the water slide! The excitement is building and we can’t wait until tomorrow where the kids get to perform for youth production. It has been a fun filled week at day camp!
See ya’ll tomorrow!

Day 3

DSC_0646The kids are having a good ol’ time yelling chants, worshipping God, and playing games. “Get up off of your feet” is a fun song that gets them off of their feet in the morning and they learned “He’s Under My Feet” where they stomped away. They played a game called “Counting Sheep” where a boy and girl from a republic competed. They had vaseline smeared on their faces and two buckets that their republic leaders held for when they plunged their faces into the buckets collecting as many cotton balls with their shaking them off and plunging in for more. Sorry fellas! Ladies won! They screamed “Pastor Jacob” as he came up to speak to them about being transformed from the inside out. He told the story in the Bible about Balaam and the donkey. How the donkey would not go on the path that Balaam was steering him because God spoke to the donkey to stop. Only when the donkey started speaking did he know that God was really wanted his attention. The point of the message was to motivate the children to get their mind right. Pastor Jacob would make the lama hand sign and they would say “Get your mind right!”. He used a transformer toy to show how it was transformed just as we should be transformed from the inside out.
DSC_0771          The kids gathered with their republic groups and went to devotions where they learned a Bible story and headed off to specialties, had lunch, and went to team building running around outside playing games. There are three games during team building where some gather in a circle throwing the ball as they would say each others names.
They started specialties learning, getting ready for their performances on Saturday, and having a lot of fun!
DSC_0942It was picture day today! We took all the republic group pictures and portrait pictures. They went to free time after slid down the water slide and played gah gah ball. The kids are making great memories, learning about God, and expressing their talents through specialties and activities. Their energy, smiles, and laughter is contagious!

Until tomorrow,

Day 2

DSC_0060We are going bananas over here at day camp! Worship was a lot of fun as the kids jumped up to the songs. A boy and girl from a republic team competed in a game where they were blindfolded building blocks to see who would build the highest. Sorry ladies, fellas won! Pastor Jacob came up and spoke about how we should not be conformed to the pattern of this worlds, but be transformed by the renewing of our minds from the book of Romans. Barefoot is a the place where we can be conformed to love one another and serve each other. He challenged to kids to do something nice to someone else.
DSC_0073They all headed off to devotions with their republics and went to their specialties after. Drama kids had their faces painted into characters they liked and visual arts painted rocks and small branches. Making of the band played together and definitely are forming a good team. Dance is practicing a song and will be excited to perform on Saturday. Extreme sports are having a lot of fun biking and skating off of jumps.
The kids went to lunch and chanted as they waited “The fire is running through my head, the fire is running through my belly, somos fuegos, somos fuegos. Oo ahh its getting hot, its getting hot.”
The kids headed off to team building where they learned how to be a good team competing republic against republic. They had a lot of fun running around tagging one another and cheering each other on! Water breaks happen throughout all activities outside so they can be refreshed and reenergized.
DSC_0392They went to their specialties whee some groups were learning how to write songs in songwriting, stomp was making cool new beats practicing for their coming performance, and photography was doing inside photography. The specialties outside had to run in when the sky broke out with pouring rainy, but of course the beaming sun came out quickly after.
During free time, a group of girls had the time of their life pony riding. The archery class went really great as they were already pros hitting the target! Screaming and laughter were heard as the kids slid down the water slide. It was a full day of fun, learning, and activities! God’s love is shown through all the kids and it is exciting to see them show it from the inside out!
God bless!

DSC_0145Grant | Age 18 | Laverne, TN | 1st year

What’s your favorite thing to do with the kids?
“ I do dance and thats something I’ve always enjoyed doing anyways. Its fun though when the kids are involved in it too. Playing games and being competitive is fun.”

What are you looking forward to?
“I’m interested to see what new things Barefoot later because they’ve done a lot of things different this year so I’d like to see the changes they make”

How is your relationship furthering with God at camp?
“He’s done wonders for me because I like to be in different environments. I don’t like how people typically are being around different environments. I think it’s really a good way to be away from a lot of things that could be distracting and really start to focus.

Why do you think diversity is important here?
“Because people slip to stereotypes really easily and It helps when you don’t preconceive anything. So you don’t look at somebody and think that they’re one way because more than likely they are not. Its easier just to work everybody under the same window so it will keep no opportunities open.”

DSC_0149Ayden | Lexington, KY | Age 8 | 2nd year

Video Recap Day 2

Day 1

DSC_0200Today was the first day of camp at First Baptist Church! We were excited to meet all the kids! This past weekend was a lot of fun as we all got to celebrate the 4th of July. Although there were many tired faces in the morning, they all came to life as we taught them different chants before worship time. The main chant we always yell is, “How do we change?! From the inside out!” and “Hey! I need you” “An you need me, hey, welcome to diverse city. D-I, What!, V-E-R-S-E, What!, C-I-T-Y. Barefoot, we are one”. Everyone was throwing their hands in the air and using hand motions dancing to the worship songs. Pastor Jacob came up and spoke to the kids and then they went off to devotions with their republic groups learning stories from the Bible.
DSC_0415  They went to specialties after where some enjoyed drawing in visual arts, making music in making of the band, riding bikes and skating in extreme sports, and the activities go on! During team building, they all played games throwing a bunch of small balls up with a blanket while others caught them with buckets and the winner had the most. They had a lot of fun running around and drinking plenty of water.
DSC_0449 They all came together for lunch getting to know each other more and making new friends. They had their 2nd specialty after lunch where I saw the photography group taking pictures in a garden, extreme sports shooting hoops, and before I knew it, it was thundering. We all went inside until the storm passed. Free time was a blast as the kids played gah gah ball and slid down the water slide. Camp has just begun and we are excited to see how much God has in store for this week.
Seeya tomorrow!
