Day 1

DSC_0050Today was the first day of day camp! The leader and counselors were excited and welcomed all the kids chanting “G O O D M O R NING, Good morning, good, good, good morning!” The registration desk was right as you enter the door where the kids picked up their name tags. The campers all went into the all camp meeting venue following the music where the band played some worship songs and every one followed hand motions to the songs. The campers settled in and started joining in with clapping and singing. Emily introduced everyone to the fun week we are gonna have at camp and Pastor Steve who came up. He taught the kids about God. He spoke on how we stand on the rock who is Jesus and He is the one who will change us from the inside out. The counselors came up and taught the kids chants and how to dance to a song called “The wobble”. The kids a joined in and danced with the counselors.

After all the fun and excitement of meeting new people, learning songs, chants, and worshipping God, they unnamed-3headed to their specialties. Some went to dance, drama, extreme sports, stomp, music production, making of the band, archery, and the list goes on! They all started off by getting to know each other, their leaders, and will be learning and expressing themselves through their interests and creativity as the week goes on. Their republic leaders took each republic group to tents that we have set up in the atrium and taught them a story in the Bible. They taught a certain way called storying where they told it to the kids and the kids told the story back until they learned it. Today it was about building your house on the Rock so when the rain falls, the waters rise, and the winds blow, your house won’t crash down. They had lunch shortly after. while they were waiting, they chanted their republic group names yelling, “warriors”, “wolfpack”, “Tiger, Lily”, etc.
DSC_0351They had some time where they were free to play sports, “gah gah ball”, bike, skate, and of course slide down the water slide!
All camp meeting is where they all gathered together again before heading home to yell chants, tell jokes on stage, and retell the story they learned about.
Well that’s all folks! See you tomorrow!

All the campers were greeted by energetic counselors before they registered. The campers were more excited today as they start getting to know more friends and become more united in their republic groups. Pastor Steve’s message was about asking, seeking, and knocking for help from God. The campers headed off to the tents to have devotions an learned the story of how Jesus raised a girl from the dead and healed a woman who touched His garment. They were able to tell the story by the end of the day and take in how great God is.

DSC_0734They went to their specialties. Stomp banged on drums making good beats. Drama kicked it off with a fun game of charades. Dance has been practicing a dance that they will be performing. Visual arts was very peaceful while they got messy and expressed their art by painting. Film has been working on their own little movie. The campers in archery have been improving their skills and the group in basketball are already better at dribbling. The kids had lunch and played a game where all of the republic group gather in the atrium. A whole lot of yellow balls were put in the middle and each group had to get a ball with the number 1 through 4 and whoever gets it first wins. They had a blast and it was a sight to see them all running into the middle. They used good team work cheering on their teams!

DSC_1109Later on a group of kids played soccer, slid down the water slide, and had turns riding two ponies. There are a lot of activities that the kids have been doing and it is really good to see the joy and excitement that comes out of them. At the end of the day, they went to all camp meeting and sang songs till it was time to go home. It has been good making the most out of life with the campers!

Day 3

DSC_1435When I walk through the door into camp, I hear laughter and see friendly faces. The kids were arriving already dancing and playing games while the band was doing a mic check. We started off with worship and chants. Pastor Steve came up and spoke about how God wants us to forgive one another and practice saying sorry.DSC_1321It was a teaching that takes us back to standing on the rock, who is Jesus.
They went to their devotions and specialties. I followed basketball and skate boarding. Basketball played a good game shooting hoops while skateboarding was learning to skate on the ramps.

It was picture day today! We took head shots, Republic group pictures, and group pictures.DSC_1244During team building game time, they each took an egg and had to drop it off the balcony, but first they built something around the egg that would cause it to survive the fall. They came up with great ideas and were creative.
The kids are eager to learn and love the new adventures they get to take every day. God is good!

Day 4

“D I what V E R S E what C I TY, Barefoot, we are one, one” they all yelled and chanted.

DSC_1559After registration, the kids worshipped with the band then Pastor Steve came up and told them about how God adopts all of us as His sons and daughters so we are brothers and sisters in Christ. He talked about the story where the pharisee prayed about all the good thing he did and the tax collector felt unworthy admitting that he was a sinner and wanted forgiveness. The point of the message was that when you humble yourself, you will be exalted, but if you exalt yourself, you will be humbled. God doesn’t look at the outward appearance. He looks at the heart!

They played a game after where a girl and a boy had to swing around this blue ribbon around their arms until whoever finished the roll first would win. Sorry fellas, ladies won!

DSC_0033

They headed off to devotions where they learned a story then they had lunch. It was Iron Man day where all the republic groups competed in a relay race around the church and outside. They started outside down. It was really fun! There was sliding down the water slide, shooting hoops, building plastic cups into a pyramid, throwing balls into buckets, chalk drawing charades on the pavement, high fiving with shaving cream, getting the hula hoop threw a one of children holding hands, and the last one solving the puzzle of blocks that spelled “Inside Out”.  It ended in the all camp meeting room where everyone met and settled down after the race to see who won.

DSC_0277

Later on they went to specialties and some road ponies, played “gah gah ball”, and had a blast sliding down the water slide during free time. It was a fun filled day!

We couldn’t wait to come back the next day to show all the family and friends the youth production where they performed.
